Luo et al. experimentally found that for an immersion cooling system, the maximum temperature of the battery increases from 35 to 50 °C when the inlet temperature of the coolant increases from 30 to 45 °C, while the maximum temperature rise of the battery is almost unaffected by the inlet temperature, as shown in Fig. 15.
Therefore, a method is needed to control the temperature of the battery. This article will discuss several types of methods of battery thermal management system, one of which is direct or immersion liquid cooling. In this method, the battery can make direct contact with the fluid as its cooling.
A novel liquid-immersed battery thermal management system was designed. The No. 10 transformer oil with insulation and cooling properties is a suitable choice for the immersion cooling liquid. The liquid-immersed battery thermal management system can significantly decrease the maximum temperature and temperature difference of the battery module.
Battery thermal management systems are crucial components of pure electric vehicles. The promising application of liquid immersion technology in electronic equipment has also garnered increasing attention for its potential in battery thermal management.
