Abstract: The fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system will require the multi-beam base station. By taking into account millimeter wave use, any antenna types such as an array, reflector and dielectric lens antennas are possible for a base station application.
The independent and reconfigurable capabilities in manipulating the propagation directions of four streams have facilitated the smart communication of the new types of base stations. We summarize the properties of the proposed beamforming system in Table 1.
In this paper, designs of three types of base station antennas are achieved and some examples are shown. As for an array antenna, Butler matrix and Rotman lens are used for multi-beam circuit. As for a reflector antenna, an offset dual reflector configuration is employed. Reflector shaping method is shown.

The system comprises a feeding source, a programmable metasurface and a control board.
In, a 2-bit transmissive RIS design with a 90° digital phase shifter and a 1-bit vertical current reversible dipole was presented to work in millimeter-wave bands, which aids wireless communications. However, low integration, high profile and bulky feed structures make most of the above metasurfaces inflexible for applications.
