However, without appropriate practices and systems being set up for recycling, recovering, and reusing, tremendous waste materials would occupy land space and pollute environment, posing threats to human health. Effective management of End-of-Life (EoL) PV modules serves a critical part for sustainable development of solar PV power.
In 2025, solar PV module innovations are not just about performance—they're also about visual integration. Modern panel designs now come in sleek, all-black formats, glass-glass modules, and frameless options to blend beautifully with rooftops and façades.
The global cumulative waste PV modules are projected to reach more than 8000 tons in 2020, and will climb to 13.5 million tons in 2050, accounting for 22.5% of the world's total ( Weckend et al., 2016 ). Under this circumstance, End-of-Life (EoL) management of PV modules will become increasingly important in PV power application.
