A complementary approach focuses on compact, embedded thermal sensors for real-time monitoring. This system utilizes a thermistor-based temperature monitoring unit housed in a mounting slot above the battery, with the thermistor protruding slightly to maintain direct thermal contact with the battery surface.
Since the heat generation in the battery is determined by the real-time operating conditions, the battery temperature is essentially controlled by the real-time heat dissipation conditions provided by the battery thermal management system.
Wang et al. applied CNN and virtual thermal sensors to predict a ternary battery's internal temperature and highlighted this method needs no knowledge of battery thermal properties, heat generation or thermal boundary conditions.
An integrated battery temperature monitoring system tackles these challenges by combining a centralized server architecture with distributed sensing components that include infrared cameras and local temperature detection devices.
The thermal performance of batteries is typically monitored using temperature sensors, which directly measure their surface temperature (ST). But, as a battery pack's number of cells increases, so does its number of temperature sensors, which raises its cost and reduces its reliability.
