At the heart of their performance lies the energy conversion rate – the efficiency percentage that measures how well stored energy is converted into usable power. Distributed generation (DG) in the residential and commercial buildings sectors and in the industrial sector refers to onsite, behind-the-meter energy generation. DG often includes electricity from renewable energy systems such as solar photovoltaics (PV) and small wind turbines, as well as battery. Energy storage can add significant value to the industrial sector by increasing energy efficiency and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions (Mitali, Dhinakaran, and Mohamad 2022; Kabeyi and Olanrewaju 2022). Global industrial energy storage is projected to grow 2. 23 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 12. 29% during the forecast period (2025-2030). Demand is shifting from back-up applications toward grid-optimization, as sub-USD. As part of the U. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Energy Storage Grand Challenge (ESGC), DOE intends to synthesize and disseminate best-available energy storage data, information, and analysis to inform decision-making and accelerate technology adoption.
